Directorii

A freelance project, designed solo: Directorii is a B2B2C marketplace built to combat contractor scams in the US. Three applications — a mobile app for homeowners, a web app for contractors, a back office for managers — one designer across all of them.

About the project

THE PROBLEM

Contractor scams are prevalent, with a 2020 study showing a 34% increase in incidents: low-quality work without contracts, unexpected cost increases, misinformation about permits. Referrals and online searches don't protect anyone — reputations there are unverifiable.

Directorii's answer: a platform where every contractor passes a background check, and every job is insured up to $20,000.

THREE AUDIENCES, ONE SYSTEM

The design challenge wasn't any single screen. It was serving three audiences with three different mental models: a homeowner who has been burned before and trusts nothing, a contractor running their business from the field, and an operations manager keeping the marketplace honest. One designer, three interfaces, one visual language.

HOMEOWNER MOBILE APP

The homeowner flow is built to answer one question — can I trust this person in my house? Verification, insurance and reviews surface before the hire, not after.

  • Find and hire contractors, request quotes, schedule work
  • Direct messaging with contractors
  • Reviews as the backbone of every hiring decision
Homeowner app: every project carries its coverage badge, with claims and support one click away

CONTRACTOR WEB APP

For contractors the app is a business tool, not a listing: quotes, jobs, schedule and payments in one place.

  • Submit quotes, accept jobs, manage projects
  • Integrated calendars to organize the workflow
  • Secure and prompt payment processing

MANAGER BACK OFFICE

The back office is what keeps the trust promise operational: administration, oversight and analytics for the team behind the marketplace.

  • User administration — profiles and support
  • Job oversight — postings and progress
  • Analytics — usage and performance insights
Back-office lead view: the conversation with the homeowner, lead status and assignee, and the tasks under it

WHAT IT TAUGHT ME

Directorii was my first product spanning three applications at once — where designing screen by screen stopped working and I had to think in one system: shared patterns, one language, three audiences. That habit later grew into design-systems work, and eventually into building them AI-native.
